MORE than 2,000 runners braved the mud and drizzle yesterday to take part in the annual St David’s Day Bute Park race.

MPCT has just opened 3 new centres in England in order to further increase the training opportunities available to young people. The new centres in Basingstoke,Hastingsand theIsle of Wight, along with the existing centres, offer courses designed to prepare learners as fully as possible for a career in the Armed Forces, Public Services or other vocational routes.

The Prince of Wales was in Newport yesterday to give the royal seal of approval to the work of three of his charities, which are helping young people succeed in the city.
He visited Pill Millennium Centre to see what The Prince’s Trust, Business in the Community and the Young Dragons are doing to provide young people with the necessary skills and opportunities to gain employment in a difficult market.

MPCT, which runs Traineeship programmes including The Military Preparation College, Sports Academy and Prince’s Trust for young people throughout England and Wales has taken both floors at Tenby House in Cardiff Gate Business Park to accommodate its expanding business. The extra 4,000 square feet will house its new head office as well as providing a training base for new staff, following the doubling of its government-funded contract in Wales.

MPCT has established its’ newest training centre in Bridgend, where a range of training opportunities, related to careers in the Armed Forces, Public Services and Sport & Active Leisure. The college is situated in a newly refurbished office in the centre of town, close to bus and railway stations, an ideal location that allows easy access for learners across the Bridgend area.

MPCT Traineeships welcomed its first intake of learners on the 1st of August 2011. Throughout the coming weeks learners have shown the necessary skills and application required to complete the MPCT Traineeships full induction and take their first steps in training for a career in the Sport and Leisure Industry.

A NEW sports and leisure college aimed at tackling youth unemployment opened in Newport this week.
The Motivational Preparation College Training (MPCT) being run from Pill Millennium Centre will specialise in a sport academy course that provides an opportunity for young people to improve physical fitness, as well as their academic abilities, in a bid to gain a BTEC in Sports and Active Leisure.

The new Princes Trust Team Programme is due to start in Wales and the staff are ready and raring to go! They have a wealth of experience between them and a range of skills that should keep them ahead of the game.
The Prince's Trust Co-ordinator Joe Wyatt, born in Barry, started as an assistant for Barry College and progressing to Team Leader after his first team. After running 10 teams for the college Joe became co-ordinator giving support and guidance to new and existing Team Leaders. He then went to work for South Wales Police as co-ordinator for the next twelve years before joining MPCT. Joe achieved the “Outstanding contribution to young people” award at the Princes Trust” Celebrate Success”. In his spare time he enjoys mountain biking, walking with his dog “Gibson” and plays guitar in an AC/DC tribute band!

Staff and students' at The Military Preparation College in Farnborough have raised more than £1,000 for this year's poppy appeal in support of veterans.
The students' ran a total of 175 miles on a treadmill at the Princes Mead shopping centre, the equivalent distance between Farnborough and Sword Beach, one of the landing grounds for British troops on D-Day.

Having joined the Eastbourne MPC in September 2010, Oliver was looking for a career as a Navy Pilot. Having already gained exceptional A levels in Maths, Physics and History, he was looking to turn to a career in the Military.
Having to travel a large distance each day by bus, train and even walking! Oliver’s attendance and dedication shone through. His discipline and work effort was at the highest level and he earned himself several student awards in his time.
